Day 27: July 16: Greenville MS to Greenville MS: 5 miles

We slept in and got a quick breakfast from Super 8. I called the bike shop and he was open so we headed over to hopefully get my trike fixed. Kwik Keys and Bikes said that they had 20" rims in stock.

Apparently I shouldn't let the girls sleep in.....Taters had enough energy to sit in the room pedaling her bike backwards.

A lot of people like to photograph us with their phones. Outside of Kwick Keys and Bikes I photographed a guy photographing Roger.

Well, they had a 20" rim, with an 8 speed freewheel on it. I sent my borked 20" rim home. I called Hostel Shoppe, and they can't get me a replacement for several days. I am going to try to finish the trip on this rim.....hopefully it is durable enough. Thats another 6 lbs sent home.

We stopped at a root beer stand called Frostees? and looked to see if we could make some progress with the 2nd half of the day. The nearest lodging was over 100 miles away, and the weather was expected to get rough so camping might be difficult. We decided to call it a rest day, and go for 100+ miles tomorrow. We gorged on rootbeer and ice cream and went in search of a hotel on the south side of town.

We got a room at the Hampton, which is out of my price range but puts us in a better position to leave town bright and early. Roger took a nap, and he was still smiling.

Taters woke him up.

Across from the Hampton was a convenient little place called Rivals that had great food and great service. Their sodas came in pitchers, literally with your straw in the pitcher. A live radio broadcast was going on, and eventually word got to the lady about our trip and she wanted to interview us. Of course everyone pointed to me......thanks guys. I grabbed Laura and made her come with me.

Also, the guy who served us Odie? was great! I probably over-tipped him, mathematics seems to have been something I have lost in the last 1300 miles. Thanks for the great service! Everyone needs to try their home made chip/nacho plate!

Back at the hotel, the front desk lady turned out to work for the local TV station as a reporter. She begged us to wait up for an interview, but we said that we needed to get to bed.....maybe down the road. She said that our next few towns all have sister stations, so they might give us a call and ask for an interview. We quietly flew under the radar until Mississippi.

That evening it poured and poured. The TV said that 70mph wind gusts were detected. Good thing we didn't decide to camp!

At least it gave us a chance to rest and catch up on emails and such. The Hampton is expensive, but the staff was great. They let us put our bikes in the conference room.

A bit day tomorrow....... good night.
