We woke up early at the Isle of Capri Casino hotel in Lula MS. We searched for breakfast but nothing was open at 6:00, so we resorted to "women's restroom stew" (oatmeal in it's packet for those of you not up on the lingo :) ) Then we hit the road hard because we had a big day ahead of us!
We has trouble finding anything to eat! After 30 miles, I saw "ore" in the distance and I prayed it said store. As we approached it was a store and better yet it was open. We ate brunch at the Great River Road Country Store. All the thankful bikers sat down and prepared to order our food when the waiter brings Dad a huge sandwich. We all yelled, "Hey, where did you get that!" He had apparently ordered the moment he walked in the door.
Our apologies to the friendly people at the Great River Road Country Store. In our excitement and talking with everyone, we forgot to leave your tip. They had fired up the kitchen early just for us.
The store had a bin that surprised Katie. She found it "hopping" with crickets.
It proved to be the hot day they expected. With heat warnings of high 90's with a heat index of 110, we really sweat a lot. We had several stops at small gas stations or restaurants for a cool off and a needed water break. After 50 miles done the thermometer said 94 degrees.
We ran into some more road construction. It is always funny to see the faces on the other side when the drivers see what is taking so long for their turn to go through.
Here is Katie exhausted at the Blue Levee restaurant in Rosedale.
As we stopped at a post office to mail some more items home, I am waiting outside with the bikes and see Chuck waving and making faces from the air conditioning. Hmmm, don't know how I will get him back for this!!
Here is a good picture showing our "biking machine" Katie. She lead the group for much of the day to help break the constant head wind we have been fighting for days.
By the time we hit 66 miles the temperature was up to 101 degrees on the road. What a hot day! Katie had sweat so much it was leaving salt marks on her pants.
Then we were passed by a crop duster right over our heads.
Luckily, we made it to Greenville and especially Chris's bike made it through the day. His rim actually split. Tomorrow we need to find the bike shop to see if it can be replaced.
Congratulations to all in the group, our new longest day: 95 miles!!
95 miles (1254 miles total)

Oh WOW that RIM!!!!!!!!!!!!
The last 2 boxes have arrived here and to see Chris' rim, now I get the problem really clear. The white line going around the tire is just that, the whilte wall (so to speak). The small brief "white" line near the rim IS the edge of the rim, still holding the tire but splitting away from the rest of the rim. WOW that is amazing to see. I don't know how you managed to limp that tire into Greenville, but at least you made it Chris. Great job.
P.S. Laura & Chris, Larry is missing you. Mr. Plecostomus doesn't seem to care.
Straight Road
Yeah, this was all on the same straight road, no hills.......all day. Headwind never quit. Taters lead the way for at least 50 miles of it.
Laura had some numb feet issues on her recumbent bike. I expect she knows to watch for it now and treat it before it gets that bad.
Without a headwind I think this would have been a fairly easy day actually.
If anyone is cycling this route, the Great River Country Store is considering adding camp sites for bikers! Wahoo! Give them a call.
I don't know why Laura posted that picture. I have one showing 101F with 66.66 miles finished.
