A fabulous weather day today - sunshine and blue skies!
We had a late start this morning. After waking up a little later than normal, we had to go find breakfast in town because our hotel did not have any (the only down side to this hotel - otherwise a great, clean place). We left our gear in the room and rode our bikes into town. The only choices were McDonald's or a bar/restaurant, so we chose the restaurant. It took a long time to get our food. Chris and TJ had pancakes that were as big as the plate, but not so good. We still cannot figure out where the syrup went that we poured on.?.
After going back to the hotel to load our gear, we were almost ready to pull out and another NT cyclist came rolling in the parking lot to say hi. Mike (the other rider) started near Seattle and was traveling east. He gave us some good info about our next couple days of riding. We also shared with him the bike trail we found to save a few miles. He was going to check it out.
We started out heading mostly North with a southwest wind, so we were able to get a good pace going and got our first 12 miles done pretty quickly. There were only small rolling hills and we had about 500 feet of elevation to drop into the Red River Valley.
We stopped for lunch at the only available place and Katie and TJ wanted to show the bikers(motorcyclists) what a real bike was so they parked by them. Just kidding!
Our next stop was at the General Store in the next town by recommendation of Mike this morning. The girls had ice cream and the boys enjoyed some pop (they had about 200 varieties to choose from). Thanks for the tip Mike!
Finally we crossed the Red River and entered North Dakota. We stopped in Fargo and crammed everything into our room, leaving no room to move!
56 miles (571 total)
