Day 10: June 23: Alexandria to Pelican Rapids MN: 72 miles

The weatherman had good and bad news for us. This would be the end of a long rainy stretch of weather, however it would bring with it a 25mph headwind. Yikes. Good thing we decided to take this bike trail, and good thing it was pretty well sheltered. The trail must have cut the wind in half, or possibly more. Thank goodness! We may have lost ground today otherwise!

The dragonflies clung to us in the 60F rainy wind. We had 70 plus miles to cover if we wanted to avoid camping in the wind...and I woke up feeling ill. The stomach was not ready for food, or biking. Laura was sick a few days ago, now it is my turn. Oh man, not a good way to start a long day. Just after we got started..... a migraine. Oh joy, these 70 miles are going to be great fun. Lucky for me, the dragon fly says I will be fine.

Laura hid behind her bike at a stop.....to try and keep warm. 60F rain with 25mph winds can get you pretty cold pretty fast. Each time we stopped moving, we started to get cold.

Katie and I hid behind a billboard for a break.

Roger hid behind a kybo.

The bike trail was beautiful. The weather slowly got better as we rode past lake after lake. The 3 amigos tried to draft as much as they could.

Some of the tiny towns had some neat old buildings.

TJ seemed to be enjoying the freedom of this new lifestyle.........a temporary reprieve from our normal lives.

The clouds broke, but the dragonflies kept with us. Notice rogers cheek.

The turtles even came out to bathe in the sun.

In Fergus Falls, a giant weasel got to take its picture with us.

TJ got the first flat tire of the trip.

Finally we arrived in Pelican Rapids, just in time for some nasty mexican food and bed.
