Day 30: July 19: Port Gibson MS to Vidalia LA: 52 miles

We woke up excited for our first B&B that actually included both B's. We were all very disappointed to discover that breakfast consisted of cold cereal. What a ripoff. I cannot recommend the Bernheimer house, considering their pricing methods and lack of breakfast. Super 8 had far nicer breakfasts.

Jumping on the Natchez Trace Parkway, we covered our first 20 miles quickly. The Trace is sure a nice smooth ride. The hills are long but not very steep so the mile markers flew past. The temps were in the 70s, which is amazing for this time of year. Awesome!

At our first break, we all quickly took to our normal duties. Roger stood around smiling while the rest of us veg'ed.

There are a lot of neat stops on the Trace. I would love to come ride it again and follow the entire thing.

We reluctantly finished with our portion of the Trace......and the following MRT sign made us wonder if we should be concerned.

The chip seal roads were horrid. Rogers headlight fell of twice and one of my mirrors broke from the vibrating.

We arrived at Nathez and were greeted by a ghost town. At 2:30 pm on a Sunday there wasn't a human or car to be seen. It was eerie. We went through the main stoplights in downtown and never saw a car.

We could not find any food! None of the town is open on Sundays! We stopped for lunch at Pig Out at a few minutes before 3.....they told us that they are usually closed on Sundays but were staying open until 3. WHEW! Good thing we stopped, the food was awesome! Best BBQ sandwiches ever. All tourists MUST stop here!

Over the Mississippi at Natchez we crossed one of our neatest bridges yet. It was a divided highway with separate bridges and a 45mph speed limit. We did about 20mph holding our lane. It went very well considering the traffic.

On the other side, in Vidalia, a herd of tricycle motors swamped me with questions.....I simply wanted them to tell me where the hotel was. In 60 seconds I probably answered 30 questions....with them coming 2-3 at a time. Check out the bridge in the background!

The Comfort Suites is in a perfect location for MRT bikers; all bikers should stay here. The staff was really friendly and helpful and the place is immaculate.

Taters by the Natchez-Vidalia bridge.....

Everyone relaxing in the hot tub.......it was not hot.

The cool kids sit in the hall on the phone......

52 miles (1471 miles total)

I love the new creative photography and sign photos. They make me laugh out loud. I can't believe that you are almost there. I am looking forward to the beach photos. Love, Maria

P.S. Chris, I think you should hang the rim on the wall in your house. It definately has character!

These are the best pics yet!!!

Of course the 1st and the last are my favorites. Hey Roger, now I know what that pause and little laugh were about; you are talking to me while getting your picture taken. He is always multi-tasking!!!

He is telling me the cell reception is better in the hallway and being so close to Katie is for "bugging her" purposes. It looks like it is working. Don't worry Kate, without his glasses he can't possibly read your texts.

It is sounding like your journey is closing in on the finale. I hope you all enjoy every last minute of it.

Chris didn't quite emphasize enough the most important announcement to this blog. Folks, Vidalia IS in ................................................................LOUISIANA!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to see you all and hear many more stories from this awesome journey. I am so proud of you all and love you all. See you soon.
