Day 29: July 18: Vicksburg to Port Gibson MS: 49 miles

After such a long day yesterday, we slept in until 7:00, had breakfast at the Quality Inn in Vicksburg, and headed out. We called ahead and made a reservation at a Bed and Breakfast in Port Gibson. It was going to be a little expensive, but we would only need one room, and there was not a lot of choices in the area. The other hotel we called did not designate smoking versus non-smoking rooms, so we had to skip them.

Here is a picture Chris took. He wanted to know what it looked like to have sunblock put on.

We had a terrible time getting through Vicksburg on the MRT. The signs were not correct and the route was heavy with traffic and had no shoulder. This is not an acceptable bike route in this area! Because of the danger we do not have pictures from this section.

After finding the road we were suppose to be on, after almost completing a circle around the city, we stopped at a gas station to get a snack. Here is a picture of Chuck eating for all of you who are worried about his diet.

Here we are on the road again and the good news is the retired guy is still smiling!

Here we are entering the Natchez Trace Parkway. This was a great road to ride on. It was nice and smooth with very little traffic because commercial vehicles are not allowed. Most of the people on this road are out for a nice scenic ride, so they have time to slow down and wait to pass safely.

Here is a picture of the real Natchez Trace Wagon trail. It sure is an easier ride now. I can't imagine taking a wagon through there.

Chris was happy to see another triker, but this one had a different kind of motor.

Chris is beginning to get artistic with his photography.

We ended our day at the Bernheimer House in Port Gibson. We had dinner and ice cream next door, but we can't remember the name of the store. They had a really great worker there!

Before we went up to shower and go to bed, we tried out the porch. I can see why those without air conditioning do this in the evenings when the weather is hot.

49 miles (1419 miles total)
