The Idea, MRT is born.

Back in high-school, a teacher asked me to create a list of goals. He suggested that I write down a list of ideas which seemed extreme but exciting. He suggested that a persons goals need to be in writing or else they will be forgotten. I made this list, and forgot about it. After college I moved back to New Lisbon and found the list. On the list....."Ride your bike across the country...". Laura thought I was nuts, like always. We both began biking more together and eventually the idea of touring grew on her. We began discussing taking such a trip together "some day". On one of our smaller tours, my sister Katie mentioned that she would want to come on the trip with us........"some day". I really never expected either of them to come with me.

One day this plan was casually mentioned to Chuck. He asked if we had a date picked. "Some day" I said. Chuck wouldn't stand for it....and helped us pick a date. He asked to join us and I agreed, not really expecting him to come.

We planned to leave on the summer of 2007. A year prior, Lauras dad mentioned that he would like to come. Again, I didn't take him seriously, but then he went and purchased a bike. He was our 5th rider, however would not be retired until 2008......so we postponed the trip for 1 year. Now the 5 of us are committed, excited, and nervous.........."some day" has actually arrived.

On a side note, some of you might argue that we are not technically "crossing the country". If you yourself have done it, I give you permission to criticize.
