Day 32: July 21: New Roads to Plaquemine LA: 60 miles

We slept in after the long day yesterday of bad roads, and a ridiculous number of flat tires.

Katie spent a little time playing with the ducks in the water under the cabin. We made it about a block before we realized my tire was not really fixed, and there we sat on the side of the road changing my tube again!

We finally made it to breakfast at Burger King at lunchtime.

We made it out of town dodging garbage cans placed in the shoulder.

We saw some beautiful, gigantic oak trees along the sides of the roads. These trees were commonly found near plantation houses in the south. We stopped at a gas station/eatery for lunch. Katie had a huge chicken barbeque sandwich and Chuck had a chili cheese hotdog, that was mostly chili cheese and very little hot dog.

Funny enough, we had to cross two bridges on a national bike route that are labeled "no bikes!"

In Plaquemine, we found our hotel and walked next door for dinner at a very small seafood restaurant.

We tried fried crawfish. I liked it, but Chris and Katie did not.

60 miles (1621 miles total)

new orleans food

When you get to New Orleans, try out some of their traditional food. Print out http://www.neworleansonline.com/neworleans/cuisine/recipes/traditionalfo... and each of you order something different and share the food among you. That way, if you don't like that particular dish, there isn't much to go through and if you really like that dish, you'll know what to order next time you have a chance to eat Cajun food. I found out that I like every item on that list. Jambalaya mmmmmmm.

not spicy

We tried a lot of food. Unfortunatly some of it is out of season (like anything with crayfish).

The Red Fish Grill is great. Today we tried riverside restaraunt, which was horrible.

Actually, nothing was very spicey, even the stuff labeled as spicy. I was worried I wouldn't be able to handle it. Even Laura tried everything without problems.............not spicy at all.
