We had a great nights sleep. The Drury Inn was probably the best hotel we have been at yet. They gave us snacks before bed, drinks, a great breakfast, and a nice pool.......and it was one of the cheapest! Katie didn't want to leave. She packed up her stuff and disappeared under the blankets.

We stopped at the Imperial Famers Market. Laura loved the smell. Chuck got some berries, I got some cherries. Laura got a bunch of blueberries, which seemed to match her shirt.

Gordan Jones, a nice local man, stopped and told us that the road far ahead had a closed bridge. He said he would catch up with us later and shuttle us past the bridge. We looked at maps with him, and all detours required the use of the interstate. He left, and we rode on.

Sadly, the Wooly Mammoth museum was closed. The crummy part is that we have had terrible luck seeing the sties lately. We missed the Lewis and Clark museum, were tossed out of the St.Louis arch, and missed the Wooly Mammoth museum. On top of this, everyone recommended a restaraunt where the staff throws bread at you....and it was closed! Bummer.

The roads in this area are in horrid shape. They are currently being repaired or replaced though it doesn't look like they are adding bike lanes (even though it is on the MRT route). That is really sad. The driving is similar to Illinois, maybe worse. We speant a lot of time trying to dodge construction and controlling traffic. Today was not my idea of a nice ride.

Roger is still having fun though.....

The weather was very cool for this time of year, about 70F. Chuck isn't crazy about the humidity however.

Our road construction eventually turned into a newly paved road. The traffic lightened up, and we had a newly paved road all to ourselves. The hills were still huge though, but very fast! I rode my brakes at 30mph many times.

We had to take multiple trips with Gordans truck, but he got us past the missing bridge.

Thanks Gordan!

The hills just seem to never end. Tomorrow we might jump the river back to Illinois. We will have to look at maps and make the call tomorrow morning.

We got to Sainte Genevieve, had dinner, and are now ready for bed. It was a long day, including mac-n-cheese pizza.

The restaurant had some interesting things on the walls.

The Microtel inn was nice enough to let us use a spare room for our bikes. Thanks Microtel!

Hill attack tactics

If you should encounter more never ending hills, try the following
- count your pedal strokes to the top
-sing 99 bottles of beer on the wall and see how many of them happen to fall down
-focus on items within the landscape command them to do something while using a foreign accent. It just might happen.

Hope these strategies help the time go by or the hills not be so big.

Love,
Maria

Taters and I sing the ABC's

Taters and I sing the ABC's backwards, including the song. We can do it nicely to a tune even!

We will try the foreign accented landscape commands tomorrow.

What happens when the landscape items start doing what I tell them?

Road Apple?

Is that the same thing as a horse apple? If so, that is quite gross.

Yup. Road pizza is also

Yup. Road pizza is also common.

We saw our first Armadillo! It was only 2 dimensional.
