Day 4: June 17: Weaver MN to Red Wing MN: 51 miles

Today was a great riding day - wind at our backs and another day of great shoulders to ride on. We were leaving the campground after only eating some snacks, so our first need was to find food. We pedaled about 11 miles to Kellogg and saw a sign for a cafe. We found a great waitress and awesome food. The Town and Country Cafe did not let us down. I couldn't believe how much all of us ate, especially Katie and I. Only on a bike trip could either of us eat this much.

We decided to stay on highway 61 because the shoulder was great and it would save us about 10 miles. We met some larger rolling hills, but we could get some speed on the downhill to get us partway up the next hill before pushing hard again. We were making great time and stopped in Lake City for lunch at Subway. Here we caught a glimpse of another cyclist going by loaded down on a tour.

We got back on the road and took a small detour to avoid more road construction. Back on highway 61 we had the wind at our backs and beautiful shoulders. We made it to Red Wing by 3:15, and pulled over to call hotels to find a room. We were able to find a place at the AmericInn with a pool and a place to put some of our bikes. It was on the far edge of town, so we could get on the road easier in the morning.

We took a walk back into town to buy snacks to replenish our supply and get some dinner. We came back with a lot of liquids and a few snacks. Here is a picture of some of the drinks.

51 miles (181 total)
